Please note that Band Mode is no longer supported in Newzik 6.0 and later (April 2021)

Band Mode allows several Newzik users to connect their devices via WIFI to share material and centralize page turns.

The “Leader” device will broadcast its current Piece and, when it turns a page, the page will turn automatically on all other connected devices (“Followers”).

The following conditions must be met in order to use Band Mode:

  • All devices must be connected to the same WIFI network (but not necessarily connected to the internet)
  • Each device must hold a distinct Newzik account (it is not possible to use Band Mode with two devices connected to the same account)

To start a Band Mode session, click on the icon in the top-right corner of the home screen and choose “I lead”. A session named with your username and an associated number will be created.

To join a Band Mode session, click on the icon in the top-right corner of the home screen and choose “I follow”. Select the session you wish to join in the list.

When the Leader opens a Piece, it will be broadcasted to all Followers. It is not necessary for the Followers to have the Piece in their Newzik Library.

Band Mode and Individual Parts

If a PDF Piece comprising several Parts is used in Band Mode, Followers can choose to display a different Part than the Leader’s. However, in this case, page turns will no longer be synchronized.

With MusicXML scores, however, page turns will be synchronized between the Leader and the Follower even if they use different Parts of the same Piece.

Overriding Page Turn Synchronization in Band Mode

Followers can choose to manually turn pages at their chosen pace in Band Mode. Doing so will deactivate Page Turn synchronization until another Piece is opened by the Leader.
